The pop singer Rihanna becomes the special ambassador of her homeland Barbados. The 30-year-old is expected to promote education in the Caribbean island nation and promote tourism and investment in Barbados, according to a statement by Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
The singer, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, will carry the title of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
She is very proud to be able to take over this title in her home country, Rihanna said in the message. “I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley to reinvent Barbados.” The pop singer has a great love for the country, Mottley said.
Barbados is the easternmost island of the Lesser Antilles and has about 280,000 inhabitants. Rihanna was already cultural ambassador of the island state in 2008.
